The Building Of Authenticity

‘Abandon all concern with public appearances. The weariest slaves are those who anxiously wonder, ‘How will I appear to others?’

Attention to appearances blocks attention to where it should be—with the building of authenticity. A man thinks he is obligated to appear intelligent and so never thinks of his real obligation to be intelligent. What would you pay for life in which you did not have to explain yourself to anyone? That is the kind of life we are talking about.’

Vernon Howard
American spiritual teacher, author, and philosopher

Utopia

‘We were outside the world, we didn’t even own things—some clothes. This arrangement resembles the prehistoric way to live, and it therefore feels right to us because our brains recognize it from three millions of years practicing it. In essence our brains grew to their current configuration in response to the realities of that life. So a result people grow powerfully attached to that kind of life when they get the chance to live it. It allows you to concentrate your attention on the real work which means everything that is done to stay alive, to make things, or satisfy one’s curiosity, or play. That is utopia.’

You Are The Universe In Ecstatic Motion

‘The whole idea of containment, it’s really uncontainable, there’s really no container big enough for this whole universe in ecstatic motion. Stop being so small. You’re the universe in ecstatic motion. It’s okay to have all of this light show and sparks going off and everything else because that’s who you are. We’re so conditioned to be so small, so tiny, little nothing nothingness and we’re this vastness of the universe, it’s like ‘Come on people, wake up! Be free! Be open! Be imaginative! Be creative! Let it happen! This is the joy of living!’
